The Cherokee Nation is canceling the annual Will Rogers fly-in for this year due to ongoing renovations at the historic Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch.
The tribe says it has to postpone the event because of critical construction work on the building and surrounding land in Oologah.
Cherokee Nation bought the historic site from the Oklahoma Historical Society in 2023 for $1 million.
Dozens of pilots from across the region have flown in for the event every year for decades, honoring the legacies of Will Rogers and Wiley Post. The two died in a plane crash in Alaska in 1935.
Cherokee Nation officials will still hold a remembrance ceremony on August 15th, the anniversary of the crash.
The tribe says it expects the fly-in to return in 2026.
